Summer Learning Journey

Today in Cybersmart we are doing another Summer Learning Journey activity. A few weeks back in Cybersmart, I have made a blog post about me leaving to England, so today I will be searching up what is like in England school.

In England school, some children would rather be home schooled instead of going to public school. Children's education in England is normally divided in to two separate stages. They begin with primary at age to five and lasts until age eleven. England school starts normally around 8:30 - 9am and then around 3-4pm ends.

England school celebrates new years day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, early may, spring bank holiday, summer bank holiday and Christmas holiday.

The England school names: Slough girls leadership academy, Spalding Bilingaul free school, St Mary's Church of England Primary School and Steiner Academy Bristol

Summer learning journey

Today for the Summer Learning Journey, curious kiwi and I were leaving on a trip to England and curious kiwi forgot his book. So I think this kiwi should go and read dairy of the wimpy kid (ugly truth). This would be great for curious kiwi because it has drawings/pictures to look at.

Through out this term I have been reading this book called the Diary of the Wimpy kid (ugly truth). The book was interesting and also had funny parts in there. It was about a boy named Greg Heffley who had a big fight with his ex best friend Rowley Jefferson.

I loved reading this book and I think you will enjoy it when you read it. I haven't read all of it yet but I love how the story was written.

The author of the book is Jeff Kinney.

The characters in the story:
Main - Greg Heffley
Brother - Rodrick Heffley
Mum - Susan Heffley
Great grandmother- Gammie
Ex best friend - Rowley Jefferson

I love this book because it looks like a comic, and I like comics. It has cool different kind of pictures and some parts of the story is funny and interesting. It is a book that I would recommend to read.

Reflection - Cybersmart

Today in Cybersmart I will be reflecting on my Cybersmart journey. My teacher Miss Morgan has asked us to do a reflection about what we have been doing for the past terms in Cybersmart.

In term one we started on smart learner. We had four lessons and they are how to look after our Chromebooks, How to create a unique and strong password for your google account, what are the short cuts/which shortcut are the most effective and who owns the images online. We also had to create a DLO explaining what it means and what you have to put in it. DLO stands for digital learning object.

In term two we did a Smart footprint. We learnt how to find out information about someone else, Private information, How to vlog, Who is social media for, Steps to make a quality blog post and what is a purpose of a blog post.

Term three we learnt about our smart relationships. Lesson 1 blog comment sentence starters. Lesson 2 we are learning to reply to blog comments. Lesson 3 tips on how to be positive, power of words, dealing with haters and trolls and color your world with kindness.

Term four we are being smart users. For the first few weeks we done the research challenge. Then we moved onto scratch coding and that was a game of drawing and coding. For the last few weeks, we have learnt about the summer learning journey.

My favourite part about Cybersmart was learning all the different things about being safe online/social media and doing so many blog posts.

My favourite thing about Cybersmart this year was that we got to make so many blog posts and getting to work in groups with our friends.

What I didn't enjoy about Cybersmart was that we didn't have a amount of time to finish our work/blog posts and staying in for lunch until we do what we have to do.

What my Cybersmart teacher did well on giving us fun work to do and explaining on what we have to do.

What I think my teacher could do better at is give enough time to finish our work and make a descent blog post.

Science roadshow

Today my class and another class, 7tz, went to a science roadshow in the learning street.  The people who were running the roadshow was Shane, Samantha and Dave. First they started off introducing themselves and had year 9&10's as their helpers. The first experiment we started of with was movement/temperature.

My friend Shontelle volunteered to help Shane with one of the experiments that was used with liquid nitrogen. She had to hold onto a number 8 pool table ball and drop it through the small metal hoop. After that, Shane had a cold smokey tin with liquid nitrogen that he had placed the metal hoop in while Shontelle grabbed some safety gear and put it on and Samantha talking about something else. Shane took out the hoop and asked Shontelle if she could place the ball through the hoop again but this time it didn't go through. It was amazing.

Later on we got to try out some different experiments set up for us in science rooms. There were 70 different experiments. Here are some photos of us trying some experiments out.

Summer learning journey - Cybersmart

Talofa my name is Anneleise and I am a year 7 and I attend in Hornby High School. My culture is Samoan and part Chinese. Next year I will become a year 8 and I am kind of looking forward. I love to play my favourite sports with my friends and that is Netball and sometimes Volleyball. I would love to try out for a netball club or a volleyball club because I am very good at both sports.

I will be committed to do the summer learning journey activities during the school holidays and sometimes in my free time. I will try my best to get points and win a prize. If I won a prize at the summer learning journey, I would pick a Bluetooth speaker for myself.

Passion projects (Community Sport)

Passion projects

What I have learn't? I have learn't that SWOT is a strategic planning technique and that theirs many ways of solving strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats.

Who is in my group? Lenora, Janel, Ofa, Adi and myself.

What is a SWOT analysis? A SWOT is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or organization identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths:
  • We have people who know and play the chosen sport
  • We are good at working with kids/have coached before.
  • We have experienced professional training

Weakness:
  • We may not be able to work with certain kids because of behavior.
  • Lack of involvement.
  • Lack of interest from the kids.
Opportunities:
  • We can give them sports tips.
  • We can teach them to improve/ to Vs other students to test their skills.
  • No cost available
  • This can also help us improve our own skills when we are questioned about our way of teaching a certain sport.

Threats:
  • Injuries that cannot be prevented/ constant injuries.
  • Social skills(too shy to talk)
  • Fail to prevent injuries that can be prevented.

Problem solving:
Weakness
We can try and make it for fun and enjoyable for the young people.
We can make it challenging and competitive.

Threats:
We can put them in small groups and get to know each other first.
We can never prevent injuries but we can help with working in a safer environment during the time we have with them, and we can also provide them with first-aid kit

Strengths:
We will look at the level of skill that the students have and use that to teach them what they need to improve on.
The skills we learnt will be put to good use when we work with the students.

Opportunities:
We can contact the Hornby primary school for permission to work with the primary students.
We can also work with other groups that have similar ideas to work with.

pH scale - Science

Today in science, my class and I were doing this small quiz about pH scale. I was working together with my friend Hope and we got all of the answers right. What I have learnt about the pH scale is that vinegar is an example of a weak acid. This is the quiz we were doing, I hope you enjoy.

About Search

About the search bar:

The search bar is where you search something up and find information or photos about what you were discovering about. It is a long rectangle at the top or middle of your screen.

The Filter:

You might think that a filter is from snapchat or a filter that changes color of your screen, but its not. The filter is under the search bar that says all, images, videos, news, maps, setting, tools and more. The filter bar is handy.

About the Natural result:
The natural result are links to information and facts about your topic. The spiderweb searches every word you have put into your search bar.

Market Day

On Wednesday the 26th of September, it was the year 7 to 10's Market day. My company was the Rainbow cupcakes and we had fun and enjoyed being there. Today my favourite part was cooking and giving the costumers the sausages. I liked working as a team with my group and seeing people having fun and with happy faces. If I did it again I would try something different.

Alchemy - Science

On Friday the 21st of September, in science class we did a new experience called Alchemy. I was in a group with Axle and Tukotahi. Alchemy was a old study and philosophy of how to change mental into gold. In the experiment, we used zinc nitrate solution, Zinc metal and copper/ten cent coin. We added the zinc nitrate solution in a beaker then started boiling it over orange fire. After boiling the zinc nitrate solution, we switched the fire into blue then held the coin with scissor tongs to try make the coin change to gold.

I had fun doing the experiment but I was hoping that the coin would turn fully gold. I think we should of kept the coin over the fire for a little bit longer then the coin would of changed.

I hope you enjoyed this.
