Truffles - Home Economics

Today in Home Economics, we made Truffles. In my group is Axle, Miah and Jaxon. It was a fun, quick lesson and my group cooperated and communicated really well and got the food made on time. In our Truffles we had cranberries, apricot, sultanas, wine biscuits, Coconut and Cocoa.

Today I finally got to try the food we made today which was exciting. In my opinion they were sweet, moist and very tasty. You could really taste the cocoa and the bits of coconut which gave it a little crunch. You can taste the apricots but not much of the cranberries and sultanas. I love how it melted in my mouth once you bite into it. My favourite  part of them were the scrambled coconut covering the outside. But overall I really loved and enjoyed the truffles. The appearance of the truffles were messy but looked pretty.

Just to inform you guys that I just found out I was wrong about thinking it was our last lesson last week but today is actually our last. The end of today's cooking was great and I have had a lot of fun. I'm glad I picked a group that was fun and collaborative. I enjoyed working together with them. It was cool to have Miss Devy's with us, teaching us for a couple of lessons. She was a awesome teacher. But at the end of the day I'm grateful for picking Home Economics this year.

2T Cocoa (sifted)

100g soft butter (at room teperture)

1/4 vanilla essence

Method:

1. Cream butter and icing sugar together.

2. Add vanilla essence, cocoa and coconut. Mix.

3. add crushed biscuits and chopped sultanas. Mix.

4. Roll mixture into 14g (approx) balls and roll in the extra coconut.

2020 Year Reflection

Today I will be writing about what we did this period in Wananga. We had to write a Year Reflection about how this year is going for us and have we enjoyed or dislike anything this year. This includes events and highlights like the Market day, lockdown, sports, subjects and etc. I chose two highlights which was Music and Market Day, something I didn't enjoy which was the lockdown, and wrote about them. I have displayed this in a slideshow and I hope you like it.

Music 2020

1. What have you enjoyed learning in music this year?

I really enjoyed learning the piano, playing different songs.

2. What have you found challenging about this year?

I found learning different instruments and practicing our group performance challenging.

3. What did you perform for your final assessment? Who did you perform with? Why did you chose that song?

We performed Beat it from Micheal Jackson. I presented it with Chloe, Nature and Hasan. And I don't know why we chose Beat it as our song.

4. How did you find performing?

I found performing not bad, I felt confident and proud at the end.

5. Were you happy with your performance?

I was actually really proud of my performance but also of my group for getting up there doing it.

6. Any other comments about music 2020. No

Overall I enjoyed music this year and I can't wait for next years music.

Here is a video of our performance:

Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Today in Home Economics, we made Carrot Cake Cupcakes. In my group is Axle, Miah and Jaxon. It was a fun, quick lesson and my group cooperated and communicated really well and got the food made on time. In our cupcake we had carrot and cinnamon with cream cheese vanilla frosting.

Sadly I couldn't try today's food again because my allergy condition, but I got my mum's thoughts on them. Her response to the cupcakes was tasty, she enjoyed it. It was very moist and soft when you bite into it. You could really taste the cinnamon and a bit of crunch of carrot. This time we added less of the salt and it made a really big difference. The appearance of the cupcakes looked great, neat and craving.

This was our final practical cooking lesson today and I have really enjoyed doing this subject. Overall I'm happy that we ended off with a great lesson and good food, and I'm glad I chose Home Economics for one of my options.

Film study Coraline - Resume

In English I have been working on how characters are developed in the Coraline Film. We had a choice to either create a challenge chart or a resume. I had created two resumes about two lead characters, explaining how the character is portrayed using specific examples from the text. I had to include interesting facts about them, challenges they faced and words that best describe them. I have done this on Piktochart and a new site called postermywall. I hope you learn something and enjoy my work.

Savoury Muffins

Today in Home Economics, we made Savoury muffins. In my group is Axle, Miah and Jaxon. It was a fun, quick lesson and my group cooperated and communicated really well and got the food made on time. In our muffins we had cheese, spinach, tomato and corn.

Sadly I couldn't try the muffins because of my allergy condition, but I got my family's thoughts on them. They're response to the muffins was okay, it was moist but needed more flavor. They could taste the cheese considering there was to much salt, so maybe next time we could add less of the salt. One of my group members suggested onions.  The appearance looked great and neat.

English Film Study - Coraline Plot

In English I have been working on analysing the plot of the Coraline Film. I had to create a timeline explaining how the film plot is constructed to engage a viewer using technical language. The words we used was Exposition, Complication/Challenge, Rising Action, Falling Action, Climax, Resolution and Denouement.  I have displayed this on a new digital site, Venngage. I hope this jogs your memory of the film and enjoy my work.

Breast Cancer - Health

Today I will be writing about what we have been doing in Health. We have been working on our assignments for the past four weeks. We were able to pick any topic to research about, either in a group of three, partner up with someone or be individual. Janel and I decided to work together and study breast cancer. There were questions to choose from that had a specific color to it and we had to choose a mix of five of them. The colors have a meaning to it which are the levels we were going to focus on. There were three levels, Rookie, Pro and Legend, we are doing legend. Our questions are, Why is breast cancer harmful?, What other issues does breast cancer link with?, Who is disadvantaged and advantaged in relation to the treatment?, How do you overcome breast cancer?, and Who tends to get breast cancer?, and had to answer them specifically.

At the end once we've gathered and researched all our information, there was our last task which was creating an activity or make something that teaches another group or the class about our topic. There were multiple of choices to choose from like, writing a song, stop motion, game, essay etc. We are designing a website for people to read useful information and get convenient tips from. We have put lots of effort into this and I hope you enjoy.

Here are some screenshots of our website:

Dissecting Pigs Heart

Today in Science, we started dissecting an pigs heart. We looked at the different parts and where they were in the heart. The different parts we looked at was the Atrium, Ventricle, Valves, Left + Right side of heart, Arteries and Veins. The parts we discovered were the Aorta, Heart Strings, Left + Right side of heart, Ventricle and Valves.

Equipment that was used: Scalpel, Scissors and Tweezers.

-What have we been learning about? We have been learning about the different parts of the heart and how they function in the body.

- Why are we dissecting a heart? We are dissecting a heart to discover where the parts are in the heart, which part is which and, study how they work and affect our body.

- What are the parts of the heart? Did you see them?

  • Left + Right side of heart
  • Ventricle
  • Valves
  • Arteries

We saw the left + right side of the heart, Aorta, Heart strings, Valves, and Ventricles.

- Did you enjoy the dissection? Why/why not?

I did enjoy dissecting a pigs heart because it was cool to see where the different parts were, what they looked like and, have a cool, fun experience doing it in real life instead of watching a video of someone doing it.

Today in Term 4 of Home Economics, we made Rice Paper Spring Rolls. In my group is Axle, Miah and Jaxon. It was a fun, quick lesson and my group cooperated and communicated really well and got the food made on time. In the Spring Rolls, there were vermicelli, carrots, capsicum, cucumber, lettuce and bean sprouts. My thoughts on the Spring roll was okay. I thought everything tasted plain, so there wasn't any flavor, but overall it was healthy. 3. Dip the rice paper sheets into the cold water and lay them out on a clean chopping board or bench top and let them soften for a minute.

4. Place your selection of fillings in the middle of the softened sheets.

5. Fold the two sides of the rice paper sheet towards the middle.

The Film Coraline - Mindmup

In English, I have been working on Themes and Ideas for The Coraline Film that we have previously watched in Term 3. There were two tasks to choose from, either using Coggle, creating a mind map showing as many examples explaining one of the themes, or writing a theme guide booklet explaining how each theme is shown in the film, giving the times to stop and look, quotes and key moments to watch for. I have chosen to go with Coggle but suggested to do it on Mindmup because it was easier and less confusing. The theme I am doing is "Looks Can Be Deceiving".

I hope you enjoy and learn something from the film and my work.

What am I learning? I am learning to analyse the looks of the characters.

How does this work show my learning? This work shows my learning by creating a Mindmup which tells the audience the theme, and characters looks used in the film.

Holidays Reflection

During the two weeks of the holidays, I had a great time having a break off school, spending time with my family doing lots of enjoyable things. On the first week, I left on Sunday to Hanmer Springs for four nights with my aunty, her family, and my siblings. We hired a two storied house with three rooms, two were bedrooms and the other was a spa room. It was a welcoming, nice house but the floors were very weak. There was a ping pong table in the garage which we played a lot everyday. On Tuesday and Wednesday we went to the pools for a couple of hours and chilled for a bit, and then we played mini golf.

On the second week, I went to the movies twice but on separate days, Tuesday I went with my siblings and mum and watched The Secret Garden, I didn't really enjoy because it was boring due to no exciting scenes, and on Saturday I watched The New Mutants which I found interesting and cool to watch because it had action, horror and fantasy in it.

On Thursday my family and I went to Kaikoura for a trip and day, to get away from home. The drive was very relaxing watching the nature views. There wasn't many things to do there due to Covid reasons but  we got fish n chips for lunch and ice cream at the end which I enjoyed. We went for a walk looking around touring the town, then at the end of the day we returned back home and had some rest.

Overall I had an enjoyable and pleasant holiday.

Instrument Evaluation - Music

Instrument Evaluation

What have you studied in Music this term?

This term in music we have been studding different instruments, learning about their roles and how to play them. Piano/keyboard, Ukulele and Guitar.

Which instrument have you enjoyed and why? I have enjoyed playing the piano because it was the first instrument that I was interested in and could play, and wanted to learn more about it.

Which instrument did you find the most challenging and why? The guitar because I didn't know and understand any of the chords, which made it hard for me to learn and practice a song.

Which instrument are you going to focus on for the rest of the term and why? What would you like to achieve?

I will be focusing on the piano, so my fingers can get used to playing the keys without making any mistakes, and so I can get better at playing fluently.

I would like to make a achievement on playing different songs just by listening, instead of learning off the paper.

Mini Apple Sauce Muffins - Home Economics

Today in Home Economics, we made Mini Apple Sauce Muffins. It was once again another fun and quick lesson, my group cooperated and communicated really well. This time in cooking it was a little different, because each groups recipe was different to everyone else's, so our muffins didn't have similar tastes. Each group got to taste each others muffins and give their own opinions on them. Unfortunately I didnt get to try any because there were eggs inside of them, but I still had a good time.

My groups opinions on other groups muffins:

Group 1 : Original muffins - It was okay. It was creamy, nice blend, could use sweeter flavor and cinnamon.

Group 2 : Butter & Wholemeal flour - It was okay. It was quite soft in texture and could be more structured.

Group 3 : Canola & Wholemeal flour - It was okay. It was rough on the outside but the texture was soft in the inside. The blends were nice.

My Group : Butter & Soy -  My group thought the muffins were okay. They thought the muffins could of been better if it was more creamier, more flavor, sweetness and not too strong.

Ingredients:
1 c Apple sauce

1 Egg, lightly beaten
1/2 c milk or soy milk
1 t vanilla essence

Cooking Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180°C and grease mini muffin tins or line with paper cases.

2. In a small bowl, use a fork to whisk together the apple sauce, melted butter, milk, egg and vanilla (liquid ingredients)
