Today my class and another class, 7tz, went to a science roadshow in the learning street. The people who were running the roadshow was Shane, Samantha and Dave. First they started off introducing themselves and had year 9&10's as their helpers. The first experiment we started of with was movement/temperature.
My friend Shontelle volunteered to help Shane with one of the experiments that was used with liquid nitrogen. She had to hold onto a number 8 pool table ball and drop it through the small metal hoop. After that, Shane had a cold smokey tin with liquid nitrogen that he had placed the metal hoop in while Shontelle grabbed some safety gear and put it on and Samantha talking about something else. Shane took out the hoop and asked Shontelle if she could place the ball through the hoop again but this time it didn't go through. It was amazing.
Later on we got to try out some different experiments set up for us in science rooms. There were 70 different experiments. Here are some photos of us trying some experiments out.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Summer learning journey - Cybersmart
Talofa my name is Anneleise and I am a year 7 and I attend in Hornby High School. My culture is Samoan and part Chinese. Next year I will become a year 8 and I am kind of looking forward. I love to play my favourite sports with my friends and that is Netball and sometimes Volleyball. I would love to try out for a netball club or a volleyball club because I am very good at both sports.
I will be committed to do the summer learning journey activities during the school holidays and sometimes in my free time. I will try my best to get points and win a prize. If I won a prize at the summer learning journey, I would pick a Bluetooth speaker for myself.

Purple cabbage experiment
Another Friday in science, we are doing a purple cabbage experiment, I am working in a group with Shontelle and Shekinah.
What we were thinking:
When we started the experiment, we added all the ingredients together and were thinking the colors were going to be violet or indigo, but after mixing the ingredients, we saw dark blue and red
.
What I have learn't:
I have learn't that adding vinegar and washing powder into blended purple cabbage turns into different colors.
Equipment we used: We used 3 equipment and they are a beaker, stirring rod and a blender. Ingredients: Vinegar, Washing powder and Purple cabbage.
Blurb:
I enjoyed doing the experiment with my group and I am looking forward for the next experiment. I hope you like my post.

Passions projects (Community Sports)
1) This is another blog post about passion projects. The project that my group and I are doing is a Volleyball tournament. We have changed our plan and now we are training year 7's to year 10's.
2) Half of my group were writing a speech to say in front of the year 7 and 8s hui about how we are going to run our passion project and the rest of us were working on our outdoor Volleyball outline.
3) How does this help you achieve your passion project?
This is going to help us achieve our project by keeping us on tract, and helps us stick to our plan.
4) Our next step: Getting teams sorted and equipment sorted.
5) What evidence do you have that this is something you need to do?
6) Work so far:

What I have learn't? I have learn't that SWOT is a strategic planning technique and that theirs many ways of solving strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats.
Who is in my group? Lenora, Janel, Ofa, Adi and myself.
What is a SWOT analysis? A SWOT is a strategic planning technique used to help a person or organization identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

Problem solving:
Weakness
We can try and make it for fun and enjoyable for the young people.
We can make it challenging and competitive.
Threats:
We can put them in small groups and get to know each other first.
We can never prevent injuries but we can help with working in a safer environment during the time we have with them, and we can also provide them with first-aid kit
Strengths:
We will look at the level of skill that the students have and use that to teach them what they need to improve on.
The skills we learnt will be put to good use when we work with the students.
Opportunities:
We can contact the Hornby primary school for permission to work with the primary students.
We can also work with other groups that have similar ideas to work with.

Today in science, my class and I were doing this small quiz about pH scale. I was working together with my friend Hope and we got all of the answers right. What I have learnt about the pH scale is that vinegar is an example of a weak acid. This is the quiz we were doing, I hope you enjoy.
