Huruamanu - Climate Change

Last week in week 6, my class and Ds has been focusing on Climate Change in Science. We did a experiment about the weather cycle and I was in a group with Sierra and Rowina. We had to get a zip lock bag and draw the weather cycle on it and add some couple of ingredients in the bag and hang it up on the glass window where there is sun shining.

Materials	Experiment 1: 1x Zip lock bag 1x Vivid pen 2x strips of Double sided tape ½ a cup of water 2x drops of blue food colouring 1x Scissors Experiment 2: 1x Zip lock bag 1x vivid pen 2x strips of double sided tape ½ a cup of water 2x drops of blue food colouring 1x Scissors 1x teaspoon of baking powder 1x Litmus paper  1x Soda water
Steps	Experiment 1: Step 1: Grab your Zip lock bag. Step 2: Grab a vivid pen. Step 3: Draw the water cycle on the zip lock bag with the vivid. Step 4: Get the 2x of the strip double tape.  Step 5: Stick the tape on the top below the zip and at the bottom of the bag. Step 6: Carefully add ½ a cup of warm water and 2x drops of blue food colouring into the bag. Step 7: Close the zip lock bag and give it to the teacher to stick on the glass window where there is sun shining on.   Experiment 2 steps: Step 1: Grab your zip lock bag Step 2: Grab a vivid pen Step 3: Draw the water cycle on the zip lock bag with the vivid. Step 4: Get the 2x of the strip double tape.  Step 5: Stick the tape on the top below the zip and at the bottom of the bag. Step 6: Carefully add ½ a cup of warm water and soda water into the bag. Step 7: Add 2x drops of blue food colouring into the bag. Step 8: Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder into the bag Step 9: Close the zip lock bag with the litmus paper at the tip of the zip and give it to the teacher to stick on the glass window where there is sun shining on.
Conclusion	I think the outcome of experiment 1 is going to look the same because it’s only blue food colouring in water.  I think the outcome of experiment 2 is going to probably change because you have added baking powder into the water with the blue food colouring and also used the litmus paper in there to see if it has changed colour.   What happened:

Hurumanu - The Greenhouse Effect

Aim: To look at Climate Change and the Greenhouse Effect.


Materials:
1. Plastic bottle
2. 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda and Citric Acid
3. 1 heat lamp
4. 1 thermometer.
5. 100 ml water
6. 1 rubber bung


Steps:
1. Collect materials from Mr Palmer.
2. Setting up the lights, bottles, thermometers and bungs.
3. Mr Palmer adds the Baking Soda Mix with 100 ml of water.
4. Wait for 5 minutes and start recording the temperature.


Variables:

All the water added to the bottles was from the classroom tap.

Conclusion:
This week in Science, we have been focusing on Climate Change. We did a experiment on the Greenhouse Effect and we had to get in a group of nine. We wrote all of the materials from the teachers blog down and also followed the steps from Mr Palmer.
The bottle of water didn't heat up as much as the bottle with gas in it. Its the same with Climate Change.

Tane Mahuta - CIP

This week in Tane Mahuta CIP, in period 2 just after Kiwi Kaha, we did a little bit of shifting and cleaning the outside classroom, while it was spitting of rain. Keyana, Janel and I got told from Mrs Allan to heave out the Ivy weeds and stack them into piles. Everyone else was just shifting some wood and other furniture to the side and got some work done.

In Period 3 it was pouring rain outside so we did some painting designs on rocks. We were painting rocks because we were going to put them in the classroom once we've finished cleaning it up. The design that I have chosen was related to my culture which was a Samoan turtle. Here is a photo of my rock that I've painted and I hope you like it.  I enjoyed painting designs on rocks and looking forward for the next CIP.

Climate Change Issues

Aim: To learn about the different emissions of climate change.

1. Transportation:
 The carbon dioxide in oil goes into the atmosphere when the car is running.

2. Electricity:
Electricity can come from renewable sources (water, wind, sun) and non renewable sources like fossil fuels (oil and Gas).

3. Factories:
When Materials like plastic, cardboard, metal, and cement are made, harmful gases are released into the air water.

4. Landfill:
Our landfills are growing and using up more healthy land.

5. Food:
We need food to survive, but it creates a lot of pollution.

6. Cows:
With about 1.5 billion cows around the world, methane is having a big effect on climate change.

Digital Tech Reflection

What do we think Digital Technology Hurumanu will be about?

I thought that Digital Tech will be about Devices/Technology and that we were going to learn more things you could do on devices and learn the shortcuts.  

What do you already know about D.T?

I don't know much about Digital Tech, I just know the basic things. I know how to use some sites/apps.  

What are you hoping to learn during this Hurumanu?

I would want to learn how to use sites creatively and to learn more about sites and apps.

Needs vs Wants - CIP

This week in CIP, we have been focusing on Needs vs Wants. We had to think of our own definitions about Needs and Wants in groups and started creating a poster/DLO about them. I created my poster on Piktochart. Here are the definitions we have made and I hope you enjoy. 

The definition for needs is something that you constantly need to survive/ live and something that you can't live without.

The definition for wants is like wishing for things we want and things we don't need now but maybe later.

5 camera angles - Music

W.A.L.T: I can explain a variety of camera angles used to make a movie.

Through the past couple of weeks, we have been trying to film and movie. I am in a group with, Keyana, Chloe, Jaz, Brianna and Rory. We had to pick a fairy tale that we wanted to film and we chose the 3 little pigs.

Here are the definitions of different angles:

Over the shoulder shot is an angle that is taking over the shoulder so you can see the person that is in front of you and yourself.


Long shot is a angle that is taken far away and that you can see your whole body.


Extreme close up shot is an angle that is right close to you face.


Zoom out shot is an angle that you adjust the lens of the camera so that the image or video seems to be smaller and farther away.


Side angle is taken from the side of your body or an object.

Science roadshow

Today my class and another class, 7tz, went to a science roadshow in the learning street.  The people who were running the roadshow was Shane, Samantha and Dave. First they started off introducing themselves and had year 9&10's as their helpers. The first experiment we started of with was movement/temperature.

My friend Shontelle volunteered to help Shane with one of the experiments that was used with liquid nitrogen. She had to hold onto a number 8 pool table ball and drop it through the small metal hoop. After that, Shane had a cold smokey tin with liquid nitrogen that he had placed the metal hoop in while Shontelle grabbed some safety gear and put it on and Samantha talking about something else. Shane took out the hoop and asked Shontelle if she could place the ball through the hoop again but this time it didn't go through. It was amazing.

Later on we got to try out some different experiments set up for us in science rooms. There were 70 different experiments. Here are some photos of us trying some experiments out.
