The Black Death Timeline - Social Studies

Due to the lock down of the Coronavirus and us working from home, I have been focusing on my Social Studies Timeline. We went through a slide about the black death, epidemics, together with the class and then read page 4 off epidemics through time book and made our timelines. We had to chose ten years and disasters off the book and then think 4 of our own including the Covid-19 and add it to our timeline. Here is my timeline:

Pompeii: The Lost City - Social Studies

A few weeks back in Social Studies, we have been focusing on one of the topics called Pompeii, The Lost City. We did some research on what happened, Where is happened, What caused it, How many people died and etc. We also had to create a Article about it and add all of our information we found off the internet.

Here is my Article:

WHAT HAPPENED…
Mount Vesuvius, a volcano near the Bay of Naples in Italy, has erupted more
than 50 times. It's the most famous eruption took place on August 24 79 CE,
when the volcano buried the ancient roman city of pompeii under a thick carpet
of volcanic ash.
Two Thousand people died and the city was abandoned for almost as many years.
Pompeii was impacted by causing earthquakes and tsunami from the volcano,
which also helped destroy the environment in Pompeii.
The damage caused by the volcano also had long term effects on
neighboring cities such as Herculaneum, Stabiae and Torre Annunziata.
People eventually left Pompeii in different directions.

Separating a Mixture using Evaporation

Aim: Trying to Separate the Solute from the Solvent / making crystals
Hypothesis: I have no idea what I thought was going to happen

Equipment: Copper sulfate solution, 250mL Beaker, heat proof mat, Evaporating Basin, Element.

Method:
1. Set up element
2. Add 100mL of hot water to the beaker and place on the element.
3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.
4. Carefully, place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker.
5. Turn on the element to 8
6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.
7. Turn off the element - careful not to touch as it will be hot for a long time.

Observation: I saw the liquids steaming up and the copper sulfate solution starting to loosen up. After a few minutes, the copper sulfate solution started getting hard and also started to look a bit like a crystal but in one whole.

Conclusion: I didn't have a Hypothesis but i'm pretty sure it was false.

Evaluation: Yes I enjoyed doing this experiment even though I came in class a bit late. I enjoyed it because it was interesting to see the copper sulfate solution dissolved at the end and kinda turning out to look like a crystal. Overall it was good and would want to do it again.

Chromatography - Science

Aim: To Separate the different pigments from ink using Chromatography

Hypothesis: What I think would happen once my colours are blending together, the outcome will straight away form into a darker colour.

Equipment: Felt Tip Pen, Filter Paper Strips, Test Tube, Measuring Cylinder, Pencil.

Method:

1. Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2. Draw a coloured dot in the centre of the line.
3. Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4. Place in the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. Make sure the pencil line is not in the water.
5. Wait for 5 minutes and observe the results.

Observation: The results of the two colours blending together, it came to be successful. The black didn't stay as its colour it changed into multiple colours such as pink, light blue, orange, yellow, etc. My other colour which was dark blue actually went into a light blue instead of getting dark.

Conclusion: No my hypothesis wasn't right.

Zombie Apocalypse Posters - Social Studies

A few weeks ago at the start of the year in Social Studies, we were talking about Zombie Apocalypse and visualizing ourselves if we were in Zombie Apocalypse in real life. We watched a small scene of the walking dead just for us to brain storm before doing any work and then we had a look at the 31 survival rules for us to know how to survive in a Zombie Apocalypse. Here is one of my posters:

My understanding of Fake Friends vs Real Friends

On Tuesday in Health, we have been learning/researching about Fake Friends vs Real Friends. We wrote some of our own opinions on a slide shared with the rest of the class, about what are fake friends and what are real friends.

My understanding of what are fake friends and real friends are is that friends don't always stick together for the rest of their life and eternity and that not every friendship is perfect.
Here are some of my opinions and the link to the slide:
Real Friends/Fake friends

Fake Friends:Real Friends:
Fake friends don't accept you for who you areReal friends appreciate for who you are
Fake friends would always try to put you down and use you for popularityReal friends be honest with each other and never lie
Fake friends only come to you when they need somethingReal friends care about you and never talk behind each others back

Athletics Reflection - P.E Training

Today I will be writing about what we have been doing in P.E, Athletics training.  We did some training on High jump, Long Jump, Shot put, Discus and sprints for us to train for Athletics day on Thursday. We also did some training for 100m, 200m, 400m, 15,000m sprints and recorded our results on a document.

One of the events that I think I have improved on was my sprints because my first result I got was 10.38m which was pretty good for my first run but thought I could do better, then later on during more training I improved and got 9.25m.

What I learned:
I learned some new techniques on how to throw a discus and a shot put because last year I was struggling on how to throw both of them, but now i'm happy that I know now.

These are the results I got for each of the events I did:

Before
After
Shot put
5.10
9.40
Discus
12.20
12.50
9.80
Long Jump
2.40
2.60
3.00
High Jump

Sprints

I really enjoyed practicing for athletics and surprised with the results that I got, especially for sprints and shotput.
