Shark Finning - Social Studies

Hi everyone, today in Social Studies we are looking at Shark Finning.

What is Shark Finning? Shark finning is when people cut off living sharks, fin and throw them back into the ocean, where it dies a slow and painful death. It is used in traditional Chinese dish that exists 1000 years before and it is called Shark-fin soup. It is considered a rare delicacy consumed by only the Chinese high class back in the day. The definition of the delicacy is something rare or expensive that is eaten during special occasions.

How is this impacting our oceans? If Sharks go instinct and disappear. The food chain cycle would collapse and the ecosystem would be torn. Especially Sharks are top of the food chain. That being said, we must put a stop to this issue. However, there is currently a new huge problem happening which is where people are preparing dishes out of Sharks meat. This will likely reduce the population of sharks even further.
