Throughout this term in CIP, I have chosen Tana Mahuta. We did some gardening in week 3 and week 4. We had a choice if we wanted to design the outdoor classroom or do some dirty work, I chose gardening.
In week 3 we started moving the tyres that had dirt in them and carried them at the far back of the field. We moved some wood and logs that were hidden under the dirt and also carried them at the back too. Once we've done that, we started digging all the dirt from the tyres into piles and then removed the tarpaulins and fold them up.
This week, we were turning and loosing the soil to make it healthy and soft, the more we loosen, the faster we get into planting. After loosing the soil, we added fresh soil on top and mixed it in with the original soil to make it better for the plants. While we were mixing the soil in, we saw some worms. This is because the worms help increase the amount of air and water that gets into the soil and they also can't survive in the sun other wise they would dry up and die.
