Vietnam Song - Social Studies

John Lennon "Give peace a chance"

Title: Give peace a chance

What is "Give peace a chance" about?

John Lennon's message in his song is saying war does not solve all problems but if you "give peace a chance" it may be a better solution to solve all the problems in war.

Facts about the song:

John Lennon wrote this song to be sung during demonstrations such as The Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam. The phrase "give peace a chance" had come to spontaneously to Lennon while answering a reporters question at a "bed-in". This was Lennon's way to protest war and promote peace by staying in bed all day.

Lyrics:

Ev'rybody's talking about
Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism
This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
C'mon
Ev'rybody's talking about Ministers
Sinisters, Banisters and canisters
Bishops and Fishops and Rabbis and Pop eyes
And bye bye, bye byes
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
Let me tell you now
Ev'rybody's talking about
Revolution, evolution, masturbation
Flagellation, regulation, integrations
Meditations, United Nations
Congratulations
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
Ev'rybody's talking about
John and Yoko, Timmy Leary, Rosemary
Tommy Smothers, Bobby Dylan, Tommy Cooper
Derek Taylor, Norman Mailer
Alan Ginsberg, Hare Krishna
Hare, Hare Krishna
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance

  3. Hi Anneleise,
I like how you lay-out your blog post into portions and adding a title according to what that certain part is about. I also like how you included a video of the song but next time could you please make sure the video is available. As well as the lyrics of the song big enough so it is readable. Overall, it is a clear and straight forward blog post. Keep up the good work. =)
