Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.
Water Filtration Plant |
What is filtration?
Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.
Examples are:
- Cleaning
- Heat pump
- Pool
- Kettle
Materials
1. Filter paper / Cone
2. Funnel
3. Sand
4. Pebbles
5. Container
6. Cup
6. Cup
Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )
Step 1
Cut the bottle with scissors to make a funnel
Step 2
Put the top half upside down and place it into the bottom half of the bottle.
STEP 3
Add layers of sand and pebbles into the funnel and then put it in the top half of the bottle.
STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water
STEP 5
Pour dirty water into the funnel with the sand and rocks in it and see a reaction.
Findings:
When we added the dirty water into the funnel, the water went through very fast. The water at the bottom was very dirty and disgusting with all the little pieces of dirt in it. It also smelled really bad.
Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.
The water wasn't very clear because of our funnel and the water dripped fast.
The water wasn't very clear because of our funnel and the water dripped fast.
Conclusion:
Today in science, my group and I did a experiment called Filtration / Dirty water. We had to cut the bottle into half so there will be a top half and bottom half. We got a filter paper and made it into a funnel. We added sand into the funnel and also rocks. After that we poured dirty water into the bottle and watched and see if the water was going to be clean or dirty.
The water that flowed through the filter was dirty and black. The water flowed at 50 to 60 drops per minute. The water went through really fast and the bark, soil and leaves managed to stay with the pebbles. That happened because the rocks stopped it.
Overall it was a great experiment and I enjoyed making it.
